The Heartland of America Museum is Weatherford's local history museum, covering the settlement, agricultural development, and daily life of the western Oklahoma region from the Land Run period onward. Exhibits include a recreated one-room schoolhouse, period rooms, farming equipment, and material on the local Native American history.
It is a modest community museum rather than a major institution, but for anyone interested in the actual lived history of the western Oklahoma plains — beyond the Route 66 tourist iconography — it provides useful context. The campus also includes a small cluster of relocated historic buildings.
