Hotel Aldridge

The Hotel Aldridge is a four-storey red-brick block at the corner of Wewoka Avenue and Main, built in 1927 at the peak of the Wewoka oil boom. The Greater Seminole Oil Field had been discovered four years earlier and Wewoka briefly hummed with wildcatters, drillers and speculators who needed somewhere to sleep. The Aldridge was the answer — the grandest hotel between Oklahoma City and Tulsa for a while.

The boom faded, the field thinned, and the Aldridge slid into a long decline. It is on the National Register of Historic Places and recent owners have worked at restoring the lobby and upper-floor rooms. You can usually look inside the ground floor; ask politely.
