Seminole County Courthouse

The Seminole County Courthouse is the other 1927 building that defines Wewoka's skyline — a two-storey red-brick block with a central tower and limestone trim. Like the Hotel Aldridge it was paid for in oil money. The courthouse square is a working county seat, not a museum, so you'll find people queuing for licences and tag renewals on weekday mornings.

The building was extended twice in the twentieth century but the original 1927 portion is unmistakable. Walk the square slowly: a few of the side streets still have the cast-iron lampposts and storefront cornices from the boom years, even where the shops behind them have long since closed.
