Whiteside Theatre

The Whiteside Theatre is a 1922 movie palace on Second Street, one of the oldest theatres in continuous operation in Oregon. It was designed by Lee Thomas in a Spanish Colonial Revival style and has gone through periods of decline and restoration — it was saved from demolition by community effort in the 1990s and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Whiteside screens independent and art-house films and hosts live performances. Going to a film here is a more satisfying experience than a multiplex — the auditorium has excellent acoustics and the restoration has kept the original ornamental plasterwork and atmospheric lighting.
