Wallowa Lake State Park sits at the south end of a glacial lake, with steep forested slopes rising hard behind the water. It is the easiest place to swim, paddle, picnic, or start short walks with mountain scenery on all sides.
The park can be busy in summer, but the setting is strong enough to absorb the crowds. Even a quick stop along the shore gives Joseph its sense of scale.
