The Wallowa Lake Tramway climbs from the south end of the lake to the top of Mount Howard, putting you above the Wallowa Valley without committing to a hard mountain hike. From the upper terminal, short trails lead to overlooks across Wallowa Lake, the Eagle Cap Wilderness, and the dry country beyond the mountains.
It runs seasonally, usually from late spring into early autumn. Go on a clear morning if you can; afternoon haze can flatten the view.
