D River

The D River is a Lincoln City oddity: a river so short you can see both ends from a single vantage point. It flows from Devils Lake under Highway 101 and into the Pacific at the D River State Recreation Site, a stretch of beach popular for kite flying. The city has installed kite-flying equipment at the site and the wide flat beach with consistent onshore winds makes it one of the better kite-flying spots on the Oregon coast.

The beach access at the D River mouth is also a good starting point for a walk north or south along the Lincoln City shoreline. Parking is free and the site has restrooms.

A story
The D River has a strong claim to being the world's shortest river — at around 120 feet from source to sea, it flows out of Devils Lake and immediately into the Pacific. Guinness recognized it as such for years, though a rival claim from Montana briefly displaced it. The debate over the world's shortest river says more about how you measure rivers than about either place.
