Oswald West State Park

One of Oregon's finest state parks, straddling the headland just north of Manzanita. The park's centrepiece is Short Sand Beach (locally "Shorty's"), a sheltered cove hemmed in by old-growth forest where the surfing is excellent and the setting verges on spectacular. Reach it via a half-mile walk through towering Sitka spruce from the highway parking area. The Cape Falcon trail leaves from the same trailhead, climbing to a headland viewpoint overlooking Short Sand and the open Pacific — about 5 miles round trip and consistently rated among the best coastal hikes in the state. On the park's southern edge, the Neahkahnie Mountain trail descends steeply to a lower trailhead near the highway.
