Cape Kiwanda State Natural Area

Windy sandstone headland with a steep dune, surf views, and wave-battered cliffs.

Cape Kiwanda is the reason to come to Pacific City. The sandstone cape rises directly from the beach, with a steep dune climb and open views over the Three Capes coast. It is a good place for kite flying, surfing, watching dory boats, and seeing how hard the Pacific works on soft rock.

Stay behind fences and warning signs near the cliff edges. The cape looks broad and forgiving from below, but the rock crumbles and sneaker waves make the lower shelves dangerous.
