Pacific City's Haystack Rock is the big offshore sea stack south of Cape Kiwanda, not the better-known one at Cannon Beach. It gives the beach its shape and mood, especially at sunset or in rough weather when the rock keeps appearing and disappearing behind spray.
You cannot walk out to it, and that distance is part of the drama. Bring binoculars if you are interested in seabirds.
