Hoodoo Ski Area sits at Santiam Pass on Highway 20, about 45 minutes west of Sisters and the closest skiing to town. It is small by Pacific Northwest standards — five chairlifts, around 800 skiable acres, vertical drop of 1,000 feet — and pitched at families and learners rather than the destination-skier crowd. Lift tickets are substantially cheaper than at Mount Bachelor, the larger resort south of Sisters near Bend.
The mountain runs night-skiing on weekends, has an active tubing hill, and reopens for a brief summer season as a mountain bike park (downhill on the chairlifts). The lodge is unfussy and the parking is free. Hoodoo is genuinely a Cascadian community ski hill; if the snow is good you will see locals making turns who learned to ski here forty years ago.
