Sisters works best as a base for outdoor activity rather than a place to hang around in town for days. Trailheads for the Three Sisters Wilderness lie just south of town and west on Highway 242. Hoodoo Ski Area is half an hour west for winter skiing. Smith Rock State Park, the world-class climbing area, is forty minutes east.
In town, the main thing to do is walk the old-west downtown grid (the boardwalks are real, the architecture is fake but well-done), browse the galleries and outdoor stores, and time a visit around one of the big events — the Sisters Rodeo in June, the Outdoor Quilt Show on the second Saturday in July, or the Sisters Folk Festival in September.
