Harley-Davidson Museum and Factory

The Harley-Davidson Vehicle and Powertrain Operations plant in York is the company's largest production facility, and it offers factory tours that take visitors through the assembly line where touring motorcycles are built. The tours are popular — book well in advance during summer. The adjacent museum covers the history of the York plant and displays a rotating collection of significant motorcycles.

If you're a fan of motorcycles, this is the main reason to come to York. The factory operates on weekdays, and tours run most mornings. The Harley Owners Group (HOG) sponsors rallies and events at the factory periodically through the year, which draw riders from across the mid-Atlantic.

A story
York has been the home of Harley-Davidson motorcycle production since 1973, when the company moved its main assembly plant here from Milwaukee. The plant was saved from closure in 1981 when a group of executives bought the company back from AMF in a leveraged buyout, a moment celebrated in motorcycle culture as the beginning of Harley's modern identity.
