The Belle Fourche Commercial Historic District preserves the old downtown blocks that grew up around ranching, rail traffic, and county business. The buildings are modest, but together they give the town more texture than a highway stop would suggest.
Walk it slowly if you are already at the Center of the Nation marker. The district is best appreciated as a working small-town main street rather than a museum piece.
