Cookeville is a small city in north-central Tennessee, set on the Cumberland Plateau between Nashville and Knoxville. It is home to Tennessee Tech University and is the main urban base for the Upper Cumberland region.
The city itself is practical rather than grand: a courthouse square, student energy, local restaurants, and easy access from Interstate 40. The reason to linger is the country around it. Within a short drive are some of Tennessee's best waterfall parks, including Cummins Falls and Burgess Falls, plus lake and trail space at Cane Creek Park.
Cookeville makes sense as a stop if you are crossing Tennessee slowly or using the plateau as an outdoor base. It is less crowded than the Smokies and less flashy than Nashville, with a good mix of college-town services and close-by nature.
