Stax Museum of American Soul Music

Built on the site of the original Stax Records studio in the Soulsville neighbourhood, this museum traces the history of one of the most important record labels in American music. Otis Redding, Isaac Hayes, Sam and Dave, and Booker T. and the MGs all recorded here. The exhibits include Isaac Hayes's gold-plated Cadillac Superfly, original studio equipment, and a recreated version of the studio's interior. The neighbourhood context matters — Stax emerged from a working-class Black neighbourhood in the segregated South, and the museum tells that story honestly.
