McKinney Roughs Nature Park lies west of Bastrop along the Colorado River. Its trails cut through sandy washes, wooded ravines, and rough little canyons that feel wilder than the distance from Highway 71 suggests.
It is a good choice when you want a longer walk than downtown Bastrop can offer, or when Bastrop State Park is busy. Bring water and shade seriously; the terrain is exposed in places and central Texas heat is not a minor detail.
