The Stillman House is the most useful of Brownsville's historic house stops if you want the city's origin story in one place. Charles Stillman, a merchant central to Brownsville's founding, lived here, and the house also connects to the commercial world that linked Texas and northern Mexico.
It is run by the Brownsville Historical Association and pairs well with a walk through downtown.
