Palmetto State Park feels out of place in Central Texas, which is the point. Dwarf palmettos, wetlands, and mossy lowland trails give the park a Gulf Coast mood even though ranch country is not far away.
It is close enough to Luling to make an easy nature add-on after the town's oil and barbecue stops.
