Heard-Craig House

The Heard-Craig House is a Victorian-era home museum two blocks east of the McKinney square, on Chestnut Street. Built in 1900 by Stephen Heard, a member of one of McKinney's founding families, it stayed in the family until the death of his daughter Susan Heard Craig in 1971. The interior retains most of the original furnishings, china, and silver from three generations of one family — unusual for a small-city house museum.

The grounds include a carriage house used as an arts venue and a women's club building from 1928. Guided tours are offered most weekday afternoons; group tours by arrangement. The garden is open during daylight hours and is a quiet break from the square a few minutes away.
