Towne Lake Park is a city-owned park near central McKinney built around a 22-acre lake. A paved hike-and-bike trail rings the water, shaded by mature pecan and oak. The trail is flat, just under a mile and a half, and popular with joggers and families with strollers.
Fishing is allowed from the bank with a state licence — the lake holds bass, catfish, and crappie. The picnic pavilions on the west side can be reserved through the city parks office. The park is busiest at weekends in spring and autumn; weekdays you have it mostly to yourself.
