Elgin Cemetery

A tiny graveyard on the south side of the river, named for a now-vanished railroad camp. The stones tell the social history of Green River in miniature: a Greek railroad foreman, uranium prospectors from the 1950s boom, Air Force families from the Cold War missile launch facility that operated here until 1979.

It is not a tourist site and there are no signs, just a fenced patch beside the road. The melancholy is part of the appeal — a slow walk through here, reading the dates and the affiliations, is a five-minute lesson in why Green River exists at all.
