Pioneer Heritage Museum

Small local history museum documenting Washington County's Mormon pioneer settlers, with some genuinely unusual artefacts.

The Pioneer Heritage Museum in Hurricane covers the settlement of Washington County by Mormon pioneers in the second half of the nineteenth century. The collection runs to period furniture, farm tools, photographs, and domestic objects from the early settler households — the kind of material that rarely makes it into larger institutions but gives a specific, grounded sense of what daily life looked like.

What sets it apart from the standard small-town museum is a collection of preserved foods that have outlasted their era by a remarkable margin, including wedding cake from the early 1900s. It is a good rainy-day stop, free to enter, and short enough that it won't eat the whole morning. The volunteers staffing it tend to know the local history well and are worth talking to.
