The Utah Field House of Natural History is the main museum in Vernal and serves as the town's introduction to the Uintah Basin's extraordinary fossil record. The collection includes dinosaur bones excavated from local sites, geological specimens, and natural history exhibits covering the region's ecology and Indigenous cultures.
The outdoor dinosaur garden is a particular draw — a trail through life-size sculpted dinosaurs set in landscaped grounds. Some date from the mid-20th century and show how scientific understanding of dinosaurs has changed over the decades; compare the old upright Allosaurus with the more current crouching posture on newer models. Inside, the exhibits are well-presented and informative, with good contextual material about how the fossils were found and what they tell us. Allow 1.5–2 hours. Located on Main Street.
