The Great Eddy Covered Bridge is Waitsfield's signature sight, a wooden Burr truss bridge over the Mad River. It was built in 1833, restored in the 1970s, and remains part of the village road network rather than a fenced-off museum piece.
The best view is from the riverbank or the village side of Bridge Street. In autumn, when the valley maples turn, it becomes one of those Vermont scenes that is famous because it really does look the part.
