Lexington is in the Shenandoah Valley, reached most easily by car. Interstate 81 runs through the valley; take exit 188 or 191 for Lexington. The drive from Washington DC takes about 3.5 hours; from Charlottesville about 1.5 hours; from Roanoke about 40 minutes.
There is no direct train service to Lexington. The nearest Amtrak station is in Staunton (about 35 miles north), served by the Cardinal and Crescent lines. A local taxi or rideshare can cover the remaining distance.
Lexington is a natural stop on the Shenandoah Valley route between DC or Northern Virginia and points south. The town's parking is plentiful and free, which makes a car the most practical option.
