The NEON District (New Energy of Norfolk) is a former warehouse and light-industrial area northeast of downtown that has been steadily colonised by galleries, murals, bars, and independent businesses. The Chrysler Museum has an outreach presence here, and the One Eleven East arts complex anchors one end.
The area is at its liveliest on weekend evenings, and during the Second Fridays gallery walk that happens on the second Friday of each month. The murals are worth seeing during the day too — the district has become one of the more interesting places in the mid-Atlantic for outdoor street art.
