The Wells Theatre is a beautifully restored 1913 Beaux-Arts building in the heart of downtown Norfolk that serves as the home of the Virginia Stage Company, the region's main professional theatre. Performances run from September to May and cover a mix of Broadway transfers, classics, and new work.
The building itself is worth seeing: red-brick and stone facade, an ornate lobby, and an intimate 675-seat auditorium that has been well maintained since a major restoration in the 1980s. If you are in Norfolk on a theatre night, it is a good option.
