Willoughby-Baylor House

Late-18th-century Federal townhouse in Norfolk’s East Freemason historic district.

The Willoughby-Baylor House is one of Norfolk’s oldest surviving residences, a brick Federal townhouse built in 1794 and later given Greek Revival details. It sits in the East Freemason historic district, close enough to downtown that it can be folded into a wider walk of old Norfolk.

Access has changed over the years, so check current opening arrangements before planning a visit inside. Even from the street, the house is a useful piece of context: a reminder that Norfolk’s history is not only naval and commercial, but also domestic, architectural, and post-Revolutionary.
