Reed Creek Mill

Reed Creek Mill stands about a mile south of downtown Wytheville on Reed Creek, a 19th-century grist mill that ground grain for the surrounding farms through most of the 1800s. The structure is still standing — stone and timber construction that has proved more durable than the industry it served — and the mill pond and creek make for a quiet stop on the way in or out of town.

The mill is not a formal visitor attraction with hours and admission; it's an outdoor historic structure that you can view from the road and the public access area near the creek. The surrounding landscape is typical of the Blue Ridge foothills: small farms, second-growth forest, a creek that runs clear over limestone. Worth ten minutes on a driving day when you're passing through on I-77 or US-21 and want to see something other than the interstate interchange.
