Yorktown is about 13 miles east of Williamsburg via the Colonial Parkway, the prettiest approach and the one that links the three Historic Triangle sites. Newport News/Williamsburg International Airport is the closest airport, though Richmond and Norfolk have more flights.
You need a car for the battlefield tour and for moving between Yorktown, Williamsburg, and Jamestown. The historic waterfront itself is walkable once you have parked.
