When to Go

Leavenworth is a year-round destination, and each season has its appeal. Autumn (late September through October) is the busiest time — the foliage on the hillsides above town turns spectacular, and the Washington State Autumn Leaf Festival brings large crowds. Book accommodation well in advance if visiting in October.

The Christmas Lighting Festival in December is genuinely magical — the entire town lights up on three weekends before Christmas, and the streets fill with carollers and market stalls. Again, accommodation fills fast.

Summer is warm and dry — perfect for outdoor activities on Icicle Creek and the surrounding trails. Winters with good snow are excellent for cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Spring is quieter and can be cool and wet, but the river is at its liveliest for rafting.
