Forks

Rain-soaked Olympic Peninsula logging town with Twilight fame and a useful west-side base.

Forks is a rain-soaked logging town on the west side of the Olympic Peninsula, close to the Hoh Rain Forest, La Push, and the Pacific beaches. It was already one of the wettest places in the contiguous United States before the Twilight books turned its grey skies into pop-culture scenery.

The town itself is small and practical, but it has more personality than a normal highway base. The Forks Timber Museum explains the old logging economy, the Forever Twilight in Forks Collection keeps the vampire pilgrims happy, and John's Beachcombing Museum turns Pacific flotsam into something stranger and more memorable than it sounds.

Use Forks for the west side of Olympic National Park, but do not treat it only as a bed between drives. Give it a few hours, especially if the rain has made the forest roads less inviting.
