The small park at the heart of Puyallup's downtown, a pleasant stop between the shops and restaurants of the historic main street. The centrepiece is a statue of Ezra Meeker, the pioneer settler and hop farmer who became Puyallup's most famous citizen. The park hosts a seasonal farmers' market on Saturdays from spring through autumn — one of the better farmers' markets in the South Puget Sound region, strong on local produce, berries, and flowers from the valley farms.
The surrounding downtown is a walkable stretch of independently owned shops, a few cafes, and the kind of small-town commercial district that has survived relatively intact. The antique shops on and around Meridian Avenue are worth a look for anyone with patience and a car.
