East River Mountain Overlook

A vertiginous viewpoint 1,200 feet above town, reached by a short paved drive.

The East River Mountain Overlook sits at the crest of the ridge that defines the southern edge of town, on US-52 just before the road dives into the East River Mountain Tunnel into Virginia. From the small parking lot a short paved path leads to a stone observation platform with views west across Bluefield and the surrounding ridges — particularly fine at sunset.

The overlook is about a 10-minute drive from downtown. Free, open daylight hours, and one of the more startling views you can reach from a car anywhere in southern West Virginia.
