The most appealing neighbourhood in Charleston, the East End runs along the south bank of the Kanawha River from roughly Broad Street east to California Avenue. Victorian and early-20th-century houses in various states of restoration line the side streets, and Virginia Street claims one of the longest continuous city blocks in the country.
A handful of small restaurants and bars cluster on Quarrier and Washington Streets, and the riverside promenade — extended over the past two decades — makes for a good morning walk. The neighbourhood is best explored on foot in a couple of hours.
