The Northern Unit of the Kettle Moraine State Forest begins just a few miles northeast of Kewaskum and covers nearly 30,000 acres of glacial terrain. The Henry S. Reuss Ice Age Visitor Center on Highway 67 (about 15 minutes from the village) is the obvious starting point, with displays on the glacial geology and a panoramic view across a kettle.
There are roughly 30 miles of hiking trails (including a stretch of the Ice Age National Scenic Trail), Long Lake for swimming and a sandy beach, mountain biking on the Greenbush Trails, and groomed cross-country skiing in winter. Camping at Long Lake and Mauthe Lake fills quickly in summer; reserve ahead.
