The Laura Ingalls Wilder Museum sits on Third Street in the village, a few blocks from the lake. It is the logical first stop before heading out to the cabin site. The collection covers Wilder's life from birth in Pepin through her years in Kansas, Minnesota, and eventually De Smet, South Dakota — where the bulk of the Little House books are set.
Exhibits include period photographs, reproduction furniture, a diorama of the cabin site, and historical context about settler life in western Wisconsin in the 1860s. The gift shop is thorough: all nine books in multiple editions, along with local history titles.
Open seasonally (May–October). Small admission fee.
