Jackson Hole Mountain Resort

Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, in Teton Village 18 km west of the town of Jackson, is consistently rated among the best ski areas in North America for challenging terrain and reliable snow. The resort sits at the base of Rendezvous Mountain, with 133 named runs, 2,500 acres of terrain, and a mix of groomed cruisers, steep chutes, and serious backcountry access. The terrain is weighted heavily toward advanced and expert runs — if you're a beginner, this is not the ideal resort, though there are learner areas.

In summer, the resort transforms into a hiking and mountain biking destination. The Aerial Tram — one of the largest passenger gondolas in North America — lifts you 1,260 metres to the Rendezvous Mountain summit at 3,185 metres in around 12 minutes, with panoramic views across the Tetons and the valley below. The summit restaurant serves lunch. Mountain bikes can be brought up or rented, and 15 km of trails descend back to the valley.

A story
Jackson Hole Mountain Resort has the greatest vertical drop of any ski resort in the United States — 1,261 metres — and a reputation for steep, unforgiving terrain that has made it a pilgrimage destination for expert skiers. The Corbet's Couloir run, which requires a leap off a cornice to enter, has been called the most famous extreme ski run in America. A mogul competition has been held there since 1976.
