Jackson Town Square

The centre of the town of Jackson is a small public park surrounded by the main commercial streets, best known for its four arches made entirely from naturally shed elk antlers collected by local Boy Scouts each spring. The tradition dates to the early 20th century, when antler collectors would hire out of work cowboys to gather shed antlers from the National Elk Refuge after the animals migrated back to summer range.

In summer the square has a nightly gunfight re-enactment that draws tourists; in winter the bare antler arches are atmospheric in the snow. The surrounding blocks have a mix of outfitters, galleries, restaurants, and bars. The Million Dollar Cowboy Bar on the west side of the square, with its saddle barstools and mounted trophy animals, has been a Jackson institution since the 1930s. The Silver Dollar Bar at the Wort Hotel has 2,032 genuine silver dollars embedded in its bar top.
