Oxbow Bend Turnout

Oxbow Bend is a broad meander of the Snake River in Grand Teton National Park, consistently ranked among the best wildlife-viewing spots in the American West. The wide, slow water supports trumpeter swans, great blue herons, osprey, white pelicans, bald eagles, and moose wading in the shallows. At dawn and dusk, with Mount Moran reflected in the still water and the peaks glowing in the first or last light, this is also one of the most photographed spots in Wyoming.

The turnout has a large parking area on the road between Jackson Lake Dam and Moran Junction. Most people spend 30–60 minutes here scanning the water with binoculars. Serious wildlife photographers often return multiple times — the light and animal activity change hour by hour. In autumn, the cottonwood and willow trees turn brilliant yellow and orange, adding to the scene. Moose are usually present in the early morning.
