Laramie's appeal combines frontier history, university culture, and outstanding outdoor access. The Wyoming Territorial Prison and the Ivinson Mansion are the main built attractions; the University of Wyoming art museum is the best free cultural stop. For scenery and hiking, the Snowy Range is the obvious destination — half an hour west and a world apart from the high plains.
