Reef Bay Trail

The best hiking trail in Virgin Islands National Park, and one of the finest in the Caribbean. The 5km one-way route descends through tropical dry forest, past abandoned plantation ruins and a set of pre-Columbian Amerindian petroglyphs carved into a rock face beside a freshwater pool, finishing at the remote beach at Reef Bay. The walk downhill is straightforward; returning uphill in the heat is harder. The park service sometimes runs a shuttle boat from Reef Bay beach back to Cruz Bay — worth checking before setting out as it saves the climb.
