Garganta del Diablo is a narrow canyon in the hills above Tilcara, roughly five kilometres from the centre. The walk is exposed and dusty, but the reward is the feeling of leaving the village behind for a harsher Andean landscape of stone, ravines, and dry air. Go early or late, carry water, and do not underestimate the altitude.
