A wildlife sanctuary in the Yungas at Yolosa, at the bottom of the Death Road — which is why every cyclist who rides down from La Cumbre ends up within a kilometre of it. Rescued spectacled bears, spider monkeys, macaws and a lot of animals that were somebody's illegal pet, in cloud forest at 1,200 metres where it is warm and green and nothing like La Paz.
Getting there without a car is an hour's walk from Yolosita or ten to fifteen bolivianos in a shared taxi from Coroico's main plaza — their own directions page is unusually honest and unusually detailed about this, down to the police checkpoints on the way and what they will want to see.
They publish Bolivian and US numbers and three email addresses, and advertise no WhatsApp line.
