Most travellers come from La Paz, about three hours away. The options range from cheap and safe to spectacular and terrifying.
By bus. Four minibus companies run from Villa Fatima in La Paz to Coroico, departing when full between 8am and 5:30pm. The fare is around Bs 15 (US$2). All buses now take the paved new road, so the ride is straightforward if not exactly comfortable for tall people. In La Paz, take a cab or city bus to Villa Fatima and ask for "donde salen los minibuses a Coroico."
By taxi. Coroico taxi drivers charge around US$50 (Bs 400) for the trip from La Paz. Contact a hotel in Coroico to arrange one.
By bicycle. The most famous way to arrive. Agencies in La Paz drive you up to La Cumbre at 4,700 metres, then you descend by bike through the clouds and into the jungle. The better-known agencies are Gravity (on the Prado) and Downhill Madness (Sagarnaga Street), charging US$50-70. Budget agencies on Sagarnaga start at US$35. Service usually includes breakfast, transport to the start, lunch in Coroico, and a ride back.
On foot. Two spectacular multi-day treks end near Coroico: the well-preserved Inca trail (1.5 to 3 days) and the old train track route through cloudforest (2 days).
From Rurrenabaque. There is a daily bus connection.
