Housed in an 18th-century baroque palace two blocks from Plaza Murillo, this is Bolivia's main fine art museum. The collection spans colonial religious painting — the Mestizo baroque school that developed here has a distinctive quality, with indigenous faces and Andean details woven into European religious iconography — as well as modern Bolivian work. The building itself is worth seeing: a courtyard of carved stone, originally built as the home of a wealthy silver magnate.
