La Paz's urban cable car system is one of the most practical — and dramatic — ways to move around the city. Opened in 2014 and now spanning multiple lines, the teleférico connects La Paz to El Alto and links neighbourhoods across the canyon that would otherwise require long taxi rides. Riding the red line from the city centre up to El Alto gives an aerial view of the city spreading across the hillside that's hard to beat. Buy a rechargeable card at any station. The fare is around 3 bolivianos per ride.
