Serra Azul State Park is Barra do Garças' strongest anchor. The protected cerrado hills rise directly behind the city and hold trails, waterfalls, caves, viewpoints, and archaeological interest.
Go early if you want to walk. The heat can be sharp, but the reward is the sudden shift from city streets to dry forest, rock, water, and broad views over the Araguaia valley.
