Dune buggy tours are the classic Cumbuco experience for non-kiters. Local drivers in open-top buggies take you across the sand dunes behind the village, stopping at viewpoints, climbing and descending steep faces, and visiting the lagoons. The dunes here are high enough to be genuinely exciting and the views over the coast and scrubland are excellent.
Tours typically last two to three hours and cover the local dunes, the Lagoa de Cauipe, and sometimes the smaller Lagoa do Banana or more distant beaches. Prices are negotiated directly with drivers, who wait near the beach entrance. Sandboarding on bodyboards is included at most stops. The buggies are shared — usually four passengers per vehicle — and the driving style is enthusiastically fast by any standard. Children enjoy it; those who prefer a calmer ride should clarify expectations with the driver before setting off.
